Claxby village is one of the most picturesque in the Wolds, nestling at the foot of the scarp slope. The hill behind the centre is on the route of the Viking Way, a recognised long distance footpath running from Rutland Water to the Humber. The view across the Ancholme valley to Lincoln Cathedral in one direction and the Humber bridge in the other is outstanding.
The village is surrounded by farmland and natural
woodland and has a playing field within easy walking
distance of the centre. There are no shops in the village,
neither is there a pub, although there is a shop in
nearby Osgodby. The nearby towns of Market
Rasen and Caistor also have a good range of shops and
services. |
